[Review Film] Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika

If you know “99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa” and fascinated by it, you maybe want to watch “Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika” since this movie relate to the previous one. So do I. I want to watch it badly. But when some of my friends ask me to watch it together, I rejected it. It was because I already had the one who I want to watch it with. It was my mom. I ask her because she rarely goes to movie and not much movies in theatre she likes. So if I know there is a movie that I am sure she will like, I prefer to go with her than with my friends.

So, on Wednesday, after I finished all of my schedules, and so does her, we went to movie to watch it. But, I fall into disappointment. In “99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa” the story explored much of shocking facts about Islam in Europe – well, since I had never gone to Europe, it shocking enough- about the straight line of monumental buildings, Arabic calligraphy in Maria’s veil, et so on. Those were new facts, for me and maybe for others too. And I expected it too in this movie. But “Bulan Terbelah di Langit Eropa” didn’t give it. It describe Hanum’s struggle to make an article about “Would The World be Better without Islam?”. Because of attacks to WTC on 9/11, Muslims had to face difficult times discriminated by other communities in America. Hanum had to manage a meeting with a mother and her daughter who were suspected that the husband (and father as well) is a terrorist. While on the other hand, Rangga, Hanum’s husband, had to make a deal with one of a millionaire in New York to come to university where he studies in Vienna. These different tasks of this marriage couple made a quarrel within them and they separated in New York, America. This movie doesn’t tell much about history of Islam in America. But, the message in this movie is clear.

From my opinion, all bad acts of person are not related to his religion. Basically, all religions teach kindness, humanity, justice. We should care of each other, be kind to all. There are not religions teach evilness. All war in the world is not about religions. It is human. Human kills human. Human hurt human.
